X0: Digital Simplicity
This spring, we’re launching a new altimeter: the X0!
The X0 is a basic, no-frills digital altimeter that we’re launching for the incredibly low price of € 139
So what are the benefits over analog?
There are several great benefits of going digital over analog!
Change between feet and metres – in an analog altimeter, you’ll have to change the face. For the X0, it’s a single button press.
Readability at low altitudes – it’s much easier to read a digital display at low altitudes than reading a small needle deflection.
Dependability: Impacts can knock your analog altimeter out of calibration or even cause the needle to stick. The X0 is also much smaller and slimmer than an analog altimeter and presents a reduced snag risk.
How did you get the price so low? Should I be worried about reliability?
We reduced the price by not including a lot of features! The X0 will deliver pure, simple altitude awareness.
We haven’t skimped on quality – each X0 is made and tested in our lab in the UK. We’re using our previous experience with altimeters like Brilliant Pebbles and the X2 to identify core functionality and cut away unnecessary features. Fewer features means fewer things that can go wrong.
Finally, we’ve also developed new technologies to lower the cost of making arm mounts.
How many digits does it display?
It displays 3 digits (plus an optional decimal point) in a high-contrast, sunlight readable screen. The numbers are large, clear, and easy to read.
- Below 1000 (feet or metres) it will display the altitude as 0 to 999.
- Above 1000 (feet or metres) it will display as 1.00, 1.01, and so on.
- Above 10000 (feet or metres) it will display as 10.0, 10.1, and so on.
How big are the numbers?
It’s not the size, but how you use it!
While the X0’s numbers are comparable in size to other entry-level altimeters on the market (approximately 12mm high) the numbers are much easier to read because:
- the screen is very high contrast
- the high-resolution font we use is easier to read than a seven-segment LCD font.
Does it log your jumps?
No, there is no logging function. X0 is designed to be as simple as possible to use.
Is it waterproof?
No, the X0 is not waterproof.
How do I change between feet and metres?
Simply use a straightened paperclip or the included pin to press the hole labeled ft/m. The unit setting only needs to be done once and the device will remember this until it is changed again.
How do I navigate the menus with just one button?
There are no menus. The button is just for turning the X0 on or off.
Does it have a backlight?
No, it does not have a backlight.
Does it have bluetooth?
No, the X0 does not have bluetooth.
Does it have a clock?
No, the X0 does not have a clock.
Does it have altitude offset?
Yes. You can change the offset in increments of 100 feet (or 30.5 metres) using the rear pin holes.
Does it come in any other colour?
The X0 itself comes only in black. We are working to make different coloured arm mounts available soon!
